Indoor rock climbing is a rapidly growing sport. Atlanta has several excellent facilities that cater to climbers of all ability levels. Novice climbers can receive beginner instruction and experienced climbers can find climbing routes that challenge their abilities. All of these facilities have rental equipment, so beginning climbers don’t have to make a large investment to try out the sport. There are two types of indoor climbing. Atlanta Rocks! is located at 1019 Collier Road NW, Suite A. With 12,000 square feet of climbing surface, Atlanta Rocks! claims to be the most popular indoor rock climbing gym in the Southeast. Instructional classes are offered for climbers of all skill levels. Daily rates are $15 for climbers who know how to belay, and $10 for boulder only climbing. Hours of operation are 11am-10pm Monday-Friday, noon-8pm on Saturday, and noon-6pm on Sunday.
Wall Crawler Rock Club is located at 1522 DeKalb Avenue NE, near Little Five Points. The club offers introductory classes, refresher courses, and intermediate technique classes. Wall Crawler has 8,800 square feet of climbing surface. Day passes are $15 for adults and $13 for students. Wall Crawler is open Monday-Friday from 10am-11pm, Saturday from 10am-8pm, and Sunday from noon-8pm.
Adrenaline Climbing serves climbers in the northeast Atlanta metro area. The facility is located at 460 Brogdon Road #100 in Suwanee, Georgia. With 12,500 square feet of climbing surface, there are climbing routes for all skill levels. Instructional classes are available. Adrenaline Climbing is open Monday-Thursday from 11am-11pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am-8pm, and Sunday from 1pm-6pm.
Stone Summit Climbing & Fitness Center is one of Atlanta’s newest facilities and the largest climbing gym in the country. With walls extending 25 to 60 feet high, there are climbing routes for every skill level. Some routes are changed weekly. They offer instruction for all ability levels for adults and children. There is also a fitness center with cardio equipment, free weights, and circuit training. In addition, they offer yoga and spin classes. The facility has a separate kid’s climbing area which also features a climbing dinosaur with slides. Stone Summit will be hosting the USA Climbing Youth Nationals in July. Day passes are $12 for adults and $10 for ages 12 and under. Passes include the use of climbing shoes, harness, belay device, and chalk bag with chalk. Passes also include the use of the fitness center equipment and classes. Stone Summit is open Monday and Wednesday from 6am-10pm; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11am-10pm; Saturday from 10am-8pm; and Sunday from noon-6pm.
Indoor rock climbing is becoming a very popular sport. Experienced climbers and novices who would like to learn a fun and challenging new activity should try one of these excellent Atlanta facilities.
